SHAI' HALUD!!!!!!!!!!

clay model. tiny'halud. gift for joey and rachel. you know who you
are. move back to sc.

clay and foam master for cliff backdrop. this was destroyed along with the mold.
only one shot at that

armature of  maker. hardware cloth is very
pokey. sore fingers often.

you could almost drink your coffee from that. it had to have a throat.

target provided the ball. i'll be damned if i could sculpt a non-crooked
half dome cutaway scoop of arrakis

that thing's operational!

jaws of spice. that's super sculpey mixed with firm sculpey. nice
color and consistency. the inside needed to be softer for ease of
sculpting due to space constraints so it's plain old super sculpey

eventually i cut the back 2/3rds of worm off. it didn't match the sand
 half dome curvature enough

mold of cliffs. lost forever

about 15-20 glops of bondo pressed into the now departed mold

foam backing the plaster "sand" pieces i cast from the ball mold.
i glued the plaster shells to the foam with gorilla glue.
there was also burlap on the inner surface of the shells to grab the glue
a little better

baked worm. ass end removed.

looks nasty and inflamed. used shiftlett bros process of slow baking
at low temps. hard as rock. darkened in thinner areas without bubbling

worm body out of bondo
note small cut out at bottom. it's cave where
the fremen would catch water. not really in any finished
photo here.

the green is miliput for the edge details

the  burlap was added to grab the plaster better

tiny peoplesss. thin wire with tin foil  torso. layers of acrylic extra heavy
gel.

finished.

the teeth are dollops  of acrylic gel mixed with wood
flour. yes, rachel. they are pearlescent as a unicorn's tear ducts

3/8th inch tall people. paul and jessica? joey and rachel?
one is a girl (standing) there are tiny boobs

the water cave at bottom had multiple layers of modge podge for water.. my least favorite part
of the whole thing. not very visible thank god

Lightsaber

It's been way too long since I posted anything. Here's a sketch I started at work the other day. Added more tonight in photoshop. I feel like I should finish it but I've already lost interest...that's how it goes with me. Eventually I want that shape in the background to the right of the image to be some crashed ship.

that's not right: faux metal squirrel on bb gun

my mom has a bb gun she uses to scare off squirrels. the part you pump broke and i inherited the task of fixing it. i went a little overboard and made a "metal" replacement part with  a lil squirrel and flowers. it's made of supersculpeu and milliput with a steel u-shaped core. i painted it with enamel "steel"  and "silver" color s, some burnt umber and some black spray paint.  couldn't seem to find any flattering shots..oh well

Littleboybluecomic.com

I recently posted a new website to be the home of the Little Boy Blue web comic that I've been working on for the past year or so. If you remember some of the old pages you'll notice there wasn't as much color. Due to some of the major story themes it made sense to add vibrant atmospheric effects to the backgrounds of Lbb's world.

The URL of the website is http://www.littleboybluecomic.com

Let me know if you see any bugs in the website, I'm trying to make the "Latest Entry" link pull up the latest page and allow you to navigate through previous pages but my understanding of Lightbox2 is limited and I need to do some more research.

I also post the pages regularly to the tumblr: http://littleboybluecomic.tumblr.com

walk hard

one leg, almost done and this one works. i'm reworking the other to match. pretty excited.

hear me baby hold together.

ok- my design doesn't work. i tried to fudge the ankle joint by having a hinge in front of my angle, not actually in line with my ankle. yup i can stand in it and crouch a little but can't move forward.
balls. i can still use the pieces i have and make a more 'traditional" ankle.
fiddle sticks. i got reallllly excited when i made an almost complete leg cable and all. shamedrinkcry

a new angle on ass kickin'

i shortened one stilt by 2.5 inches and added a bend to take the excessive pressure off the ankle. i also stopped testing with bungie cords and started using straps that don't stretch. ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD. i bought a bunch of cable and bungies to try both. cable wins. i can still fit this new configuration into the overall design. shit's looking up. the eye bolt you see at the heel of the shoe( or at least that extra metal to the right of it) will have to be reworked. that's pushing it in terms of still fitting it into the Elite's ankle.

one step closer to scaring the dogs

almost there. i'll make the other upper tomorrow and both will have another piece that rests on the thigh. i'll attach the bungie tendons to that. and those will attach just behind the heel. a few straps and some cushioning, and one more foot portion will keep the foot stable.

one ugly mother...

i'm making an elite ranger of Halo Reach fame as a costume.
i drew a lifesize likeness around my traced silouhette. not quiet life sized. i should be a lil over 8 feet tall but i'm about 7'4" in this which is pretty imposing. i didn't want it to get too bulky- i was more worried about proportions. i got the toy for my birthday so i'm using that as a go by. also i can use Reach's/xbox's cool theater feature to take screen shots from all angles of the ingame version. which will be really helpful. the green metal bits ( fence posts)are the main parts of the digitigrade stilts i'm building- my take on another design. i need a new camera and will retake pictures later as it progresses. a trip to tractor supply will give me the final bits of hard ware to hold this together.

giving the finger to springs and cables

fingers for a "possible " Halo Elite costume. the inner workings anyway. the top is aluminum but i wanted one that didn't rely so much on springs , cables, etc. the plastic one will need one spring and will probably be eventually made of metal. MAYBE Joey, i'll have a costume for dragoncon this year

now we're suckin'

oh my crap. i rebuilt my box(removing some inner supports that were in the way and unnecessary) and used our household kenmore upright instead of my sucky-in-the-wrong-way shop vac.oh. my.baby.christ. note the adpator i made out of duct tape and an old photo canister. sooooo happpyyyyyyyy

Sousaphone

This is something I've been working up in tiny increments for many months now. It needs some more detailing but essentially it will be my Spectrum entry at the end of this month.

carbon scoring on your droid

i built a new vaccuforming box this weekend. the old one was a bit crude. the new one is leaner and has perforated sheet metal, not crudely drilled kevin-scavenged-metal. i used an old shop vac attachment to connect it to the old shop vac. the crazy melted one was my first attempt. it drooped all the way down to touch the rack in the oven. a bit of a burnt plastic smell in the kitchen. the cleaner one wasn't centered enough when i put the plastic/frame down on the box nor was the master high enough off the box/perforated metal surface to prevent all the wrinkles . oh well. really neat process.

dudes at a baby shower?

my friend ian is having twins so i cranked out this futuristic robot family. about 28" wide. acrylic. yup. this is what i've been doing for the past couple of weeks. sorry for not posting progress shots.
